With growing international/national concern regarding ‘clean fuel’ and the sky rocketing prices of crude oil, Jetropha cultivation in India has received a fillip in the last four to five years. Planning Commission, Government of India, produced a ‘Report on Development of Bio-Fuel’ in 2003 which virtually laid down the road map for the country.

Government of India has made the Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy the Nodal Ministry for development of National Policy on Bio-Fuels while the Ministry of Rural Development will be the key Ministry for undertaking jetropha cultivation on the wastelands. Horticulture Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh is the Nodal Department for jetropha cultivation in the State although jetropha cultivation is also being undertaken by the Forest Department. Agriculture Department plans to set up model jetropha farms spread over 500 hectares in Lucknow and Hardoi districts.

A list of National and State level Agencies engaged in promotion of jetropha cultivation has been indicated below.
